I got the bug! After seeing all the great shots [Keacher](http://keacher.com/) has gotten with [his](http://www.keacher.com/photos/images/1101270842.jpg), playing with [Min](http://moxie21.livejournal.com/)'s in [Tahoe](http://picasaweb.google.com/optimism21/TahoeIsGorges), and seeing that [Alex](http://alexlo.net/) had [gotten one](http://www.alexlo.net/blog/2007/05/35-i-got-myself-xti-for-my-26-and-14.php), I decided to take the plunge and get my very own Digital SLR camera as a graduation gift from my self, my mom and [names of anyone else who wants to get me something for graduation].
Most of my experience with DSLRs has been with Canons, and looking online, I narrowed it down to the [Canon Digital Rebel XTi](http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/canon_eos400d.asp) and the [Nikon D40x](http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Nikon/nikon_d40x.asp). A quick trip to the camera store allowed me to get a feel for both. After spending some time walking through the store trying different shots with each, I made up my mind and got the Canon.
Hopefully I'll be posting some award-winning photos in no time!

Congrats! That's a nice camera. The challenge now will be deciding between it and your Stylus for trips.

Ah, that's easy: take them both! The Stylus is so light and portable, I can (and usually do) take it everywhere with me. The XTi isn't as portable, but it'll get far more use when I do bring it, because of the great shots it gives. I like to think of them more as complements than substitutes.

i think what you'll find in no time is that good lenses are ridiculously expensive. you going to join flickr? much easier than keeping your own

Yeah, I've noticed that. I decided to just go with the kit lens for now, at least until I start feeling constrained by it.
I haven't decided about Flickr yet, I'm still kind of weary of handing them over to Yahoo. What I really want is some sort of repository on my computer that will keep them all safe without me having to think about it.
